I see the cw band shrinking, not because of the lack of cw but because of all the modes that are taking over that portion. If you look at the League band plan (http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/regulations/bandplan.html) you will see that much, if not most, of the cw portion of the bands is taken by other modes. A small portion at the lower ends is all that's available.
As for code dying, i don't think so, too many hams enjoy it. It is one of over 1000 modes available and it will be used. Even if cw went away, the "digital" band would still exist as more and more digital modes are being created and used. The advanced band, on the otherhand is losing licensees without regaining them. Finally, there is real incentive to upgrade to extra, significant band width.
