Dean;
Thanks - by way of explanation... (this is going to be a little long winded and maybe a little off topic, but it might help someone else, and in any case maybe it has entertainment value, so...)
When I was re-licensed as AD5WY on 10 May 2006 (my previous General N1EZW expired in 1997, but I elected to take all four elements in my 2006 exam, I had been away from it for a while and was on the "borderline" of 10 years anyway); I didn't have a working computer or my own internet connection at the time. I recieved my FRN paperwork, and filed it away.
Recently I was interested in correcting the database, from "2048 S Clack -554" to "2048 S Clack APT 554", mainly for a silly little reason - I wanted the N4MC Ham Locator/Map to put me in the right place on maps. It might *still* put me in the wrong place (simply the middle of the zip code, on "Rebecca Lane", no big deal).
:)
I had already "forced" corrections in the QRZ database; I did research via MicroSoftTerraServer, etc., printed a zoomed-in satellite photo, annotated (lat/lon),of my apartment and derived EXACT coords, and so forth, corrected QRZ, and now my Lat/Lon is correct (and I am in grid square EM02ck now, not the previous EM02cj, which was incorrect). If you take the lat/lon from QRZ and invoke mapping software and zoom in, you can see EXACTLY where I am at - I have the coords down to the closest second of lat/lon; its a spot a few feet in front of my front door (no missiles, please).
... but when I first logged onto ULS (now that I have a computer) this week, I found it somewhat confusing. "Password - WHAT password?". I should have reviewed my FRN paperwork from 2006... anyway, I initiated a "security question" thing since there wasn't one on file. I didn't like the timelag, and apparantly ULS was going to be down on the 19th, so I paid $8 to the QRZ VEC to initiate an address correction.
THEN I called the FCC and told them that ULS was confusing :) ... they walked me through it, I set and documented my security question and new password, and I initiated my own update; if nothing else, so I could learn how to do it.
... both N4MC and QRZ still have me down as being in "-554" instead of "APT 554". As if my QTH is in a steam tunnel or something.
Hi Hi...
