She apparently does not have an FRN. W5YI needs to establish an FRN for her and set a password, associated the FRN with her license, and then renew the license. Given the holidays and their effect on W5YI, the FCC, and perhaps the mail, I'm not surprised it has taken a few days.

If she wanted faster service, she should have done it herself online (and saved not only a few $$$, but the hassle); it would have only taken a few minutes to set up an FRN and then associate it with her callsign, and then renew. It's something every amateur should be capable of doing, in my opinion.

Of course, she should have renewed before her grace period started 15 months ago. I hope she wasn't operating during then ...

I am amazed at the number of amateurs who let their license expire (past the two years grace period) and then apply for renewal. I remember one case where some guy applied for renewal five years after expiration. Out of curiosity, I searched the Internet for his callsign, and found that he had regularly been signing with his callsign on various message boards, so he hadn't forgotten that he was had been licensed; he just forgot to renew.

One wonders how many drivers are out there with expired drivers licenses. OF course, many states mail reminders, but if you've moved ...
