There are many folks out there who go out of their way to shame many hams from getting original issue 1x2s, either for themselves or for club stations or whatever. I don't know why you would say that "that call sign will never be mine," because although many, many people are named "Mark", you nevertheless feel an intimate affinity for your name because it's *yours*.

Good luck. A person's choice of call sign is a private choice that shouldn't be second-guessed, discouraged, or otherwise disparaged in any way by anybody else.
