It looks like it is possible that Charles Newcombe died around 1953, which ties into your callbook findings. He was born in 1879, (so he would have been 74 years old), and lived most of his life in Yerington, NV. According to what I've been able to find out Charles was originally issued 6UO in 1921 (NV was in 6 land then), and was one of the early pioneers of amateur radio in NV. I don't know when he received W7VO, but I am pretty sure he was the original holder of the call. His son was apparently also named Charles, born in 1916, and died in 1998 (in Carson City, NV), and while he could have been the holder rather than his father, it seems to me that the original holder was Charles Sr. Amazing what you can discover on the internet!
