Hello,
I've been using this great site for some time now when I started considering applying for a vanity call. As fate would have it, my father W5DQ passed away in Dec 08 and I have applied for his call as a 'relative to former holder' application. The app is in the FCC and should show up in the next update.
I have looked at the exisitng online data for the W5DQ call and see that prior to 1997 when it was cancelled (dad got it in 2000), it belonged to Mr. Felix "Doc" Boizelle of Baton Rouge, LA. I have not been able to find info on when it might have been issued (shows a date of 8/11/1997 on VanityHQ).
I did find that Mr. Boizelle had the callsign of W5FQH as on 1937 when the Baton Rouge ARC was formed (he was a founding member).
I would like to ask if anyone has callbooks in the period from 1937 to 1987 and would be willing to do a little detective work for me to see when W5DQ was orginally issued to Mr. Boizelle. He was noted as a General in the 1991 data and I know he became an SK in 1993 so I am assuming he only got to General in his lifetime. So somewhere between 1937 to 1981 he probably upgraded and got the new W5DQ callsign.
Thanks in advance for any help on this,
Gene Brewer KI6LO (W5DQ hopefully)
